Local Doula Feature: Amanda Heath!

Meet Amanda, birth & sibling doula and henna artist in southeast Nebraska!

I met Amanda a few years ago at a Meet the Doulas event put on by a local doulas organziation, Doulas of Lincoln. Amanda is one of the warmest, kindest humans I have had the pleasure of knowing. She is also an incredibly talented artist, particularly with henna. I have enjoyed getting to know Amanda, both as a professional and a friend. I am excited to share more about her with you!

Recently, I interviewed Amanda to learn more about who she is as a person, birth worker and artist. Here’s what she had to share….

What brought you to birth work?

My husband and I did foster care for many years but that season of life came to and end and I was looking for a way to stay connected to the girls we had placed with us during that time. The opportunity to be trained as a doula came up, so I took the training to become a doula.

What do you love about birth work? What brings you the most satisfaction?

I love it when women step into their power and take charge of their birth. Seeing women take back their choices with evidence based actions makes me so proud to be a woman and to be with women!

What is the hardest part about birth work?

The hardest part about birth work, for me, is lack of sleep and getting re-centered after a long birth.

What was the most memorable birth you attended?

I had a client who lived in Lincoln but chose to birth in Omaha. She went into labor in the middle of a blizzard! I wasn't comfortable driving to Omaha in the blizzard, so I rode with them in their 4 wheel drive. We made it to the hospital in plenty of time but, the powers that be, ended up shutting down the interstate shortly after we arrived. Close call!

What is something unique or funny about you?

Our oldest was adopted at the age of 16. Usually kids get adopted earlier in life but Ty needed a permanent family, so we offered that to her and she gladly joined our circus!

What is your business name and what services do you offer?

I'm a birth doula, henna artist and also face/body painter. My business is Earthen Artistry Nebraska.

What locations do you serve?

I have served women in several towns in and surrounding Lincoln, including; Freemont, Aurora, Hastings, Omaha. I'm willing to travel.

Where can people get in touch with you to learn more?

I'm on Instagram @earthen.artistry.nebraska
